Keyword research is critical for any search engine optimization campaign and website optimization, but when optimizing your website it is a very thin line between proper keyword usage and keyword spam. Stuffing keywords repeatedly in your website content will get you barred from the first few pages of all the search engines.Let’s take a look at what is considered keyword spam. The average keyword weight should not exceed 1.3% to 1.5% of the total text of a web page. So if your page contains a total of 1000 words, you should strategically place no more than 13-15 identical keywords on the page.

I arrived at this figure from my own experience and also by studying all the top websites listed in the first pages of Google organic search. It is clear that all the top ranking sites agree that the use of any more than 1.3%-1.5% of any given keyword, or keyword phrase, is considered spam.

Another type of keyword spam is “Inappropriate Keywords.” It is considered an inappropriate use of a keyword when you include a keyword in the meta title, description, or keyword tag that is not related to your website content. Spammers use this technique in an attempt to gain traffic that they have no legitimate right to.

This type of search engine manipulation is really stupid when you consider the fact that when a person arrives at your site in search of a specific item, and then finds that your site has nothing to do with the keyword they searched, most of them will never return.

Inappropriate keyword use in the meta keyword tag is the very reason that the major search engines like Google Search, Yahoo Search and Bing Search do not use your keyword meta tag as part of their site ranking and site placement anymore.

Seo Sins Keyword Advice

1 – You should always try to mention your main keyword within first 5 words of your site description.

2 – You should never use an identical keyword more than once in every 50 to 75 words. In my opinion it should not exceed 1 in 75.

3 – For the best results you should always use your keyword within a phrase.

4 – Use of your main keyword near the end of the webpage is mandatory.

5 – Use exact keywords and keyword phrases in text links for site navigation and backlinks from other websites.

6 – Use keywords and keyword phrases in your meta tags description and title.

7 – Use your keyword in the page headline.

8 – Use the keyword phrases in <h2> and <h3> sub headline.

9 – Use a few bold or italicize keywords

One of the best ways I have found for a webmaster to write content for a web page is to have a natural conversation with another person on the chosen topic, and record it. Then edit this conversation to include the keywords and keyword phrases in the page.
